In verse 2, Jesus gave
us an assurance that He is going to prepare a place for us in the kingdom of
God. But the first verse says: “Do not let your hearts be troubled, Trust in
God, trust also in me”. He is fully aware of the many troubles in the world, He
came in human form that we may know that he can totally relate to this; to give
us the hope we need to walk the walk. He wants us to know that there’s a
permanent home for us in heaven and this world will only last a lifetime. It
can be difficult to remember this when oceans rise against us and guess what?
Jesus knew this times would come so he gave us something to constantly remind
us of his presence- The Holy Spirit (verse 17 - 18; 26, 27). What a thoughtful
King He is!
How do we prepare for this permanent place? Do we even know how to get there? I am sure the disciples had these same questions plaguing their hearts. This can be confirmed from Thomas’ question: “Lord, we don’t know where we are going so how can we know the way?’ Verse 6 goes ahead to give us a “map” to our heavenly home. "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me- Hallelujah!

Everything we need has
been made readily available for us through the word of God and with the help of
the Holy Spirit, we receive the grace to always point in God’s direction.
"Verily, verily, I say
unto you, he that believes in me, the works that I do shall he do also; and
greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my father" (verse
12).
It is not enough to know
these things, we have to believe it with all of our hearts. We need to be
confident in the promises Jesus gave us and understand that He came that we may
have life. We are no longer bound to sin and we have received the mandate to
continue His good works.
God’s intention for us
is to be shaped and molded into Christlikeness that it becomes second nature to
us. Jesus spent His time on earth laying the foundations for our faith; that is
the most important part of any building! He wants us to boldly go out and make
more disciples for Him, proclaim His glorious name and illuminate the world
with the light of His truth.
Prayer: Lord, thank you
for going back to prepare a place for me with the Father and for giving me a
map to Heaven. Thank you for shinning your light into the darkness in my life.
Help me to boldly shine this light you have placed in my heart so that I will
bring others to the knowledge of your name. Amen.
