Chicken Soup for the Christian Youngling

Yes, yes.. I know I'm on a roll this week bows and courtesies

I realized I have never had a post on accountability for the growing christian so I decided to get it over with.

I have made myself an example in most of my posts not because I want the attention to be on me, but because I want you guys to understand the practicality of whatever I come on here to say. Practice what you preach they say right? And to be honest, I fall off the radar, more often than you know,in doing most of these things but there's nothing I post on my blog that I haven't attempted/struggled with myself. So don't worry, we are in this together and the Holy Spirit is our guide.

In my post on Speak , I mentioned the mini seminar I had on Christian accountability with my purity group and I guess that's why I thought we already had this discussion.

I didn't understand the implications of 2 Corinthians 5:17 until after my re-dedication to Christ

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

I mean, I understood things were going to be different but the extent was a bit vague. In terms of friendships, you may say you want to keep the same friends you had before you were saved but in honesty, you begin to drift away from them if you are not walking along the same path.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being friends with someone who is yet to come to that place of total submission to God ( we all get there at different times) but my point here is, as a growing believer, you tend to be filled with so many questions that they may not be able to answer for you.

Giving your life to Christ is one thing, making continuous efforts to grow in him is another and in fact the most difficult. This is where your support system comes in; your accountability partner(s). Accountability partners are people who hold your hand through your journey and help you get back up every time you stumble. Now this is not a matter of being independent, YOU CANNOT DO THIS ALONE. Paul speaks of the inter-dependency of the christian community in 1 Corinthians 12 and he sheds more light on the necessity of surrounding ourselves with like- minded people.

Trust me when I say I am a living testimony. So many times I have been at the verge of "chickening out" of this whole thing and then I look back and forth to see I'm surrounded by people who wouldn't let that happen. You WILL get to a point of weakness and this is when you begin to get the interests from your investment in your support system. These people can totally relate to this our "struggle".

Accountability partners are people you can talk to without the fear of being judged; they are the ones who care more about how to get you back on track than how you fell off it in the first place. They are the people who pray for you when you get so weighed down to even open your mouth to say a prayer. These are the people who know what it means to make a decision to be a Christian in the 21st century and understand the need for somebody to lean on.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Grace and Peace.
